DIMETHYL ETHER PROJECT SIGNED FOR INNER MONGOLIA . . .
A construction project of dimethyl ether with an annual output of 3 million tons was signed in late July in Galutu Town, Wushen County of Ordos, Inner Mongolia. The project will be carried out by Zhongtian Co-founding Energy Company, Limited, which was initiated and promoted by the National Development and Reform Commission of China. It was financed by five enterprises: China National Coal Group Corporation, Sinopec, Shenergy Company, Limited, China Yintai Holdings Company, Limited, and Manshi Coal (Group) Limited, with a registered capital of $795 million.

A grand integrated project of coal, chemical, power and transportation, with a total investment of $5.7 billion has already begun in Ordos by Zhongtian Energy.

It plans to exploit 25 million tons of coal, produce 4.2 million tons of methanol and 3 million tons of dimethyl ether every year, and will also include a two-unit 35-MW (each) heat and power plant for self-supply. A long-distance pipeline to Beijing-Tanggu Port will also be built.

China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) is an integrated energy and chemical company, ranking as China’s largest producer and supplier of oil products (including gasoline, diesel and jet fuel) and major petrochemical products (including petrochemical intermediates, synthetic resin, synthetic fiber monomers and polymers, synthetic fiber and chemical fertilizer). It is also China’s second largest crude oil producer.

Sinopec was set up on the 25th of February in 2000 by China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) as the sole initiator. Sino Group, the sole initiator of Sinopec, is a super-large petroleum and petrochemical group restructured and established by the government in 1998 on the basis of the former China Petrochemical Corporation. It is a state-owned company invested by the State, functioning as a state-authorized investment institution in which the State holds the controlling share.
